What is LEFT OUT is as important as what is PUT IN!

In 1969 The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures (KIT) was printed by the WT and its impact has led many JW's to leave the organization and into the arms of Jesus. In the '85 reprint of the KIT the WT tried to lessen this impact by making a few changes but the stream of JW's leaving the WT and turning to Jesus continued. Now the WT has put the '85 KIT on its web site but with significant changes. This blog is about the changes in the KIT from 1969 to 1985 to the KIT presently available at JW.ORG.

Why the changes? On page 5 of the '69 KIT (which I have reproduced below) the WT states their PURPOSE for writing this Bible and a TEST to see if the WT has fulfilled the stated purpose. You can read for yourself the PURPOSE and the TEST. However before continuing, I would suggest downloading a free PDF copy of the '69 KIT here, and follow in it as you read this blog.

Before looking at the PURPOSE and the TEST, you need to read below, 'How the KIT is laid out.' Now read . . .

The Purpose. Here is my paraphrase: "To help sincere searchers for truth understand the original Greek Scriptures without sectarian, denominational teachings influencing the translation."

The Test. Here is my paraphrase: "The WT  put their NWT parallel (across) from the Original Greek (God breathed, where it is impossible for God to lie) side. One could read the Greek then read the NWT and determine--Is the translation faithful to the God breathed Greek OR has it been ALTERED because of sectarian, denominational religious teachings."

Examples of the WT Altering Scripture. I have blogged about the WT's habit of altering the Bible instead of their doctrine whenever there is a conflict between the Bible and their doctrine. Read any in my eight (8) part series entitled "Presto Change-O!" Part 1 is here.

By using the KIT a JW can be shown that the WT HAS altered their Bible. The JW is taught that the WT religiously bases all its doctrines and practices on the Bible and only the Bible. What  you show the JW with the KIT will leave the Witness hopefully pondering this Question: Will I follow the Bible or the WT?

Powerful?? Yes!! And the WT knows it. That is why in '85, when the WT reprinted the KIT, they made some minor but significant changes. Look at page 5 of the '85 KIT below. In RED are the words left out of the '85 KIT but were included in the '69 KIT.

"Sincere searchers for eternal, life giving truth desire an accurate understanding of the faith-inspiring Greek Scriptures, an understanding that will not be confused by sectarian, denominational religious teachings but that is fortified by the knowledge of what the original language says and means. The purpose behind the publishing of The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures is to aid such seekers of truth and life. Its literal interlinear English translation is specially designed to open up to the student of the Sacred Scriptures what the original koine Greek basically or literally says. without any sectarian religious coloration."

Since the WT practices ALTERING scripture because of their denominational religious teachings they decided to leave the reference to sectarian coloration out of the 1985 edition. No sense pointing out something that will put the WT in bad light and may cause the door-knocker to question the WT's impartiality in translating sacred scripture.

Today, if you go to the WT's official web site you will be able to find the '85 KIT. Well, not the entire '85 KIT. The WT has decided to place SOME of the '85 KIT on it's site. You can find it here. Look at this ABRIDGED '85 KIT and compare it with the COMPLETE '85 KIT that you can download here.

Two Questions Need to be Answered.

#1. What has been left out of the JW.ORG '85 KIT?

The Major Omissions: 

• The actual '85 KIT has two columns, as explained above. In the JW.org '85 KIT the WT has deleted the narrow right-hand column, the NWT  column. So the sincere seeker cannot easily compare the original Greek with the NWT  and determine if the translation has been the victim of religious coloration. Exactly what the WT wants.
• BY WAY OF EXPLANATION pages 5 and 6. This gives the reason the KIT was printed and how to determine if religious coloration has affected the translation. Exactly what the WT wants to avoid.
• FORWARD pages 7-12. This contains a number of embarrassments for the WT. Such as God's name is not Jehovah, which they admit on page 12 and I blogged about here. Also, they have stated a rule (on page 11) for inserting Jehovah 237 times in place of Kyrios or Theos in the NT but did not apply their "Rule" in some interesting verses which I blogged about here. On page 9 the WT deleted from the '85 version one very significant sentence. Here is the '85 text with the deleted '69 sentence in RED. "The Greek text that we have used as the basis for our New World Translation is the widely accepted Westcott and Hort text (1881) by reason of its admitted excellence. Where we have varied from the reading of the Westcott and Hort text, our footnotes show the basis for our preferred reading." The WT failed to provide the footnotes for the varied reading in the following: Colossians 1:16-17 and John 14:14 and Revelation 5:10 and 2 Peter 1:1. • ALL FOOTNOTES that occur at the bottom of various pages throughout the NT. The most embarrassing is Romans 10:9 which I blogged about here and here.

#2. Why has this material been left out?

FIRST, as explained above, the WT is attempting to remove the evidence that their New World Translation has been significantly influenced by sectarian, religious, denominational coloration. 

AND the WT is attempting to remove the evidence that shows whenever the Bible is in conflict with their doctrine, they change the Bible to align with their doctrine instead of changing their doctrine to align with the Bible.
