WHAT DOES THE BIBLE Really TEACH? A WT book—Chapter 1 "What is the Truth About God"

JW's are visiting neighborhoods passing out pamphlets and somewhere on the tract is an offer for a “Free Bible Study.” However, if you agree to this “study” you will study a WT book “WHAT DOES THE BIBLE Really TEACH?” I have a copy of the book and over the next few months I am going to go through the book, a chapter or two at a time, and blog about what I find. I am sure I will write about some minor points that irritate me and some major points that are absolutely against Bible teaching. I will, by no means, exhaustively write about each and every error in this book—that would require a book several times the size of the WT book.

So here goes, Chapter 1, “What is the Truth About God?” On page 12 is a minor but irritating topic (to me) the WT loves to talk about, “GOD WANTS YOU TO KNOW WHO HE IS”. If you read this section, you will come away believing that God’s personal name is Jehovah. The fact of the matter is that God’s name is not Jehovah. The WT knows it is not, admits that it is not, but states close enough—besides everyone else uses Jehovah so that is what we are going to do. As proof that the WT knows Jehovah is not the correct name of God see, The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures (Purple Cover) page 23, also, Aid to Bible Understanding page 882. In both books the WT states that “Yahweh is the more correct way.” Why does the WT admit this? Because the Hebrew language does not have a hard “J” sound—so Jehovah cannot be the correct pronunciation.

What if your boss was named Yaden or Yancy or York? Would they know you are talking to them if you said, "Hi Jaden or Jancy or Jork"? What if your cousin was going to Yale--would he/she be happy with you saying, "my cousin is going to Jale." Would people know what you are talking about if you said, "I have a jellow car" instead of a yellow car.

In “What does the Bible Really Teach (WDTBRT),” page 195 the WT states “Clearly, God’s name is of the UTMOST importance.” If it is so important to the WT, why use a name that could not be pronounced by the Israelites? The WT goes on, “Why, then, have some translators left this name (Jehovah) out of their translations of the Bible and replaced it with titles?” I could ask, “Why has the WT put in a name that is totally foreign to the Hebrew language when the correct name is available?”

What the WT has done in the NT is to insert the name Jehovah 238 times and taken out titles like God and Lord. There are over 24,000 manuscripts and partial manuscripts of the NT and not once can the name Yahweh be found in any of them. If you have read from my blog, you will know that changing the Bible is something the WT does not shrink from doing.

The WT would have you believe that using the name Jehovah is more intimate and personal and loving than using a title. However, how many of those same JW’s would have their children call them by their first name? “Harry, can we go visit George and Ethel?” Would not, “Dad, can we visit Grandpa and Grandma?” be more reverent and loving. Unfortunately, in our society there are many broken homes. When a woman remarries, do her children call husband #2, dad or father or papa? Or do they usually call him by his personal name, Edgar or Walt and only refer to him as dad, when through the passage of time, husband #2 has demonstrated to be a loving and devoted father.
