A Prophet Was NOT Among Them! Part 1

The Watchtower of April 1, 1972 (pictured below) contains a question, the answer, and a challenge.

THE QUESTION . . . Today, does Jehovah have a PROPHET to warn people of dangers and to DECLARE THINGS TO COME?

THE ANSWER . . . Affirmative! This "prophet" was know as "Int'l Bible Students" but today they are called "Jehovah's Christian Witnesses."

THE CHALLENGE . . . The article says it is easy to say you are a "prophet" of God but another thing to prove it. The only way to prove you are a "prophet" is to review the record. WHAT DOES IT SHOW?

The definitive work on this subject can be found here

This blog and several others to follow, will take up THE CHALLENGE and review the Watch Tower record. INDEED WHAT DOES IT SHOW, concerning the Watch Tower DECLARING THINGS TO COME.

Prophecy of 1878--The End of the Harvest

At this time Jehovah's Witnesses were known as Int'l Bible Students. Charles Taze Russell, founder and president of the Int’l Bible Students, stated that Jesus' presence had begun in 1874 and the "little flock" was being gathered together. This "gathering" was a precursor to the grand climax which was already in progress. He further stated that the harvest would extend only to 1878, at which time the gathered saints would change into spirit form. That year would also bring the beginning of God's kingdom exercising control over the earth. The above information can be found in Three Worlds and the Harvest of the World. Download a copy here, then see pages 68, 89-93, 124-126 and 143.

When none of the above occurred, Russell stated, “we naturally and not unreasonably expected some change of our condition, and all were more or less disappointed when nothing supernatural occurred.” ("Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence,Zion's Watch Tower, Feb. 1881, page 4.) See below.

Russell predicted a number of things would occur but nothing DID. What does the WT have to say about identifying a False Prophet? "To know whether one is a true or a false prophet. If he is a true prophet, his message will come to pass EXACTLY as prophesied. If he is a false prophet, his prophecy will fail to come to pass" (The Watchtower, 15 May 1930, p. 154. See below.

Sorry CT, but the WT has identified YOU as a False Prophet. What do today's JW's have to say about this False Prophecy? "It occurred over 130 years ago. End of discussion." Answer me this. How many years after a False Prophecy is all forgiven by Jehovah? And where can I find that in Holy Scripture?
What I do find in the Bible at Deuteronomy 18 is Jehovah's standard and punishment. The standard--The prophecy must come about (just as the WT stated above) and if it doesn't--that prophet shall die. Today, a false prophet is not going to be put to death but should you be taught or lead by such a one?

A Prophet Was NOT Part 2 here.

At this point WHAT DOES THE RECORD SHOW?
