AN ANCIENT MANUSCRIPT SUPPORTS GOD’S NAME a 4’51” video at JW.ORG

The WT starts this video patting themselves on the back by stating, “The New World Translation, released in 1950, was unique in that it restored the divine name, Jehovah, 237 times in the New Testament AND Why did the divine name need to be restored?”

At 43” Izak Marais, “The oldest copies we have available did not use the divine name in the Christine Greek Scriptures. They used substitutes like God or Lord.”

At 53” Franz Schredl, “very early on the copyists of those original manuscripts they simply replaced, they got into the practice of replacing God’s name. We know that this is not a translation because one (referring to the word God) is a name and the other (Lord) is a title, it is not even a synonym for Jehovah for a name.”

At 1’14” Mark Noumair tells us that Jehovah’s name was used 7,000 times in the Hebrew Scriptures, thus "the disappearance in the Greek Text is inconsistent."

At 2’16” Mark Noumair goes on to tell us that fragments were published in 1944 from the Greek Septuagint--Papyri 4 Fouad 266 collection. And in those fragments there was the divine name. "This was clear proof that the divine name was originally there."

At 3’07” The Announcer states, "After obtaining permission, pictures of 12 of the fragments were published in the forward of the New World Translation." Because of this finding . . .

At 3’42” Franz Schredl states, “That the eternal name of God has to be revealed, it cannot no longer be hidden, it should be shown to everyone who wants to worship Jehovah.”

At 4’07” Izak Marais, “knowing his name is essential to know Jehovah himself.”

At 4’24” Franz Schredl, “this is why this bible translation is so beautiful because it brings us closer to Jehovah, Jehovah is not just a Lord somewhere which could apply to any one but he is Jehovah our God. He extends his hands to us and says well, “I am Jehovah, call me by that name.” (It is positively impossible for God's name to be Jehovah. See my blog here, "Is God's Name Jehovah?")

MY COMMENTS. In the video, Franz Schredl says that we should not use God ("it is a name not a translation") or Lord ("it is a title not a translation.") BUT, according to the WT, it is OK to use a totally made-up word, Jehovah, for God's name. If you think God's personal name is Jehovah, you should read my blog, "Is God's Name Jehovah" here.

The WT has inserted Jehovah 237 times in the NT. They could have inserted it two more times but didn't. WHY? Let's  See!

#1 Hebrews 1:10-12 (NWT), "At the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; and just like a garment, they will all wear out, and you will wrap them up just as a cloak, as a garment, and they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will never come to an end."

Psalm 102:25-27 is quoted by the author of Hebrews. The Psalm is definitely about Jehovah God and uses His name throughout. Further, the author of Hebrews is directly quoting from the Septuagint. Jehovah's Witnesses claim that, in the time of the New Testament, the Septuagint used the divine name and not the word "Lord" when referring to God. They insist that the practice of using the word "Lord" in place of God's name only came later. So why leave this reference to Psalm 102 as "Lord" and not Jehovah? The reason is obvious. The author of Hebrews is applying this verse to Jesus. It is saying that Jesus is the "Lord" referred to in Psalm 102. To translate it as Jehovah would be to admit the obvious truth that the book of Hebrews is claiming Jesus to be Jehovah God. If they were consistent in their practice, they would have to admit that this passage teaches the full deity of Christ and points to the doctrine of the Trinity. But that is exactly what they are trying to deny, so they selectively leave the word as "Lord" here, even though their own textual theory would insist that it should be "Jehovah." 

THUS, it becomes clear that the real reason for selectively changing the word "Lord" into "Jehovah" is a doctrinal agenda rather than an actual concern for the original form of the text. (Thanks to CARM.ORG for the information related to this topic. Go here for the entire article.)

Isaiah 45:22-23. Reads, “Turn to me and be saved all you [at the] ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no one else. By my own self I have sworn—out of my own mouth in righteousness the word has gone forth, so that will not return—that to me every knee will bend down, every tongue will swear, saying, ‘Surely in Jehovah there are full righteousness and strength.’”

Look at Romans 14:11, “for it is written: “’As I live’ says Kupios (Lord) ‘to me every knee will bend down, and every tongue will make open acknowledgment to God.’”

The WT has jumped in and changed Kupios to Jehovah and the verse now reads, “for it is written: “’As I live’ says Jehovah, ‘to me every knee will bend down, and every tongue will make open acknowledgment to God.’”

#2 Philippians 2:9-11, “For this very reason also God exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name, so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Kupios (Lord) to the glory of God the Father.” I have blogged about this before here.

Philippians is also a quote from Isaiah 45:22-23, however, the WT did not rush in and change Kupios to Jehovah. Why? Because Philippians would then read, “that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Jehovah to the glory of God the Father.”

Whoa! Jesus is Jehovah! Not according to the WT. What to do? Simple—Ignore the rule for inserting the name Jehovah into the NT in this instance AND not a single JW will be the wiser. Why? (1) The WT will never point out this inconsistency AND (2)  a JW will never find this out on their own. Why? (1) Because JW's have a fatal character flaw that prevents them from finding out the truth--I have blogged about this flaw here AND (2) Because the WT has made this comment about JW’s and studying the Bible, “Heavy research is not necessary. The Watch Tower has done it for you. The most beneficial study you can do is to read The Watchtower or Awake! or a new book by the organization.” The Watchtower, June 1, 1967, p. 338.
