WT rule for Bible Interpretation Ignored by the WT.

In the WT book, “The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures,” (Purple Edition) page 18, this question is asked. “How is a modern translator to know or determine when to render the Greek words kyrious (Christ) and theos (God) into the divine name in his version.”

In other words, in the NT when Christ and God appear in the original text, when can the translator change those words into Jehovah. At present there are over 25,000 NT manuscripts and NOT ONE SINGLE MANUSCRIPT does the name Jehovah appear. But the WT has never shied away from changing the Bible to suit their doctrine. Back to the KIT page 18 and the WT answers their own question.

“By determining where the inspired Christian writers have quoted from the Hebrew Scriptures. Then he must refer back to the original to locate whether the divine name appears there. This way he can determine the identity to give to kyrious and theos and he can clothe them with personality.”

In other words, if the NT verse is quoting an OT verse and the OT verse contains Jehovah, then the words kyrious or theos, in the NT, can be changed to Jehovah. The WT has thus inserted the name Jehovah 237 times in the NT. Mind you, they have done this without one shred of textual evidence from ancient manuscripts. The WT has no qualms about changing the Bible to match their doctrines instead of changing their doctrines to match the Bible.

Now for the verse where the WT has not followed its own rule. Look at Isaiah 45:22-23. It reads, “Turn to me and be saved all you [at the] ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no one else. By my own self I have sworn—out of my own mouth in righteousness the word has gone forth, so that will not return—that to me every knee will bend down, every tongue will swear, saying, ‘Surely in Jehovah there are full righteousness and strength.’”

Look at Romans 14:11, “for it is written: “’As I live’ says Kupios (Lord) ‘to me every knee will bend down, and every tongue will make open acknowledgment to God.’”

The WT has jumped in and changed Kupios to Jehovah and the verse now reads, “for it is written: “’As I live’ says Jehovah, ‘to me every knee will bend down, and every tongue will make open acknowledgment to God.’”

Now read Philippians 2:9-11, “For this very reason also God exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name, so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Kupios (Lord) to the glory of God the Father.”

Philippians is also a quote from Isaiah 45:22-23, however, the WT did not rush in and change Kupios to Jehovah. Why? Because Philippians would then read, “that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Jehovah to the glory of God the Father.”

Whoa! Jesus is Jehovah! Not according to the WT. What to do, what to do? Simple—Ignore the rule for inserting the name Jehovah into the NT in this instance AND not a single JW will be the wiser. Why? Simple, Simple! The WT will never point out this inconsistency AND a JW will never find this out on their own. Why? Simple, Simple, Simple. Because the WT has made this comment about JW’s and studying the Bible, “Heavy research is not necessary. The Watch Tower has done it for you. The most beneficial study you can do is to read The Watchtower or Awake! or a new book by the organization.” The Watchtower, June 1, 1967, p. 338
