EXEGESIS or EISEGESIS
I recently was given a copy of a WT booklet, "What Can the Bible Teach Us?" I also just happen to have listened to a sermon where two words were defined and examples given for each. The words: EXEGESIS and EISEGESIS (also know as Conformation Bias.)
I decided to read through the WT book, look at some of the teachings of the WT and ascertain if the WT used EXEGESIS or EISEGESIS to determine their doctrine. Part 1 is here.
In my pic to the left, you may have noticed I took out the word "Bible" and substituted in "False Prophet." Why? Read any or all of my four blogs exposing the Watch Tower as a False Prophet, here, here, here and here. The title of their booklet claiming that it contains truths taught by the Bible is incorrect. It contains the doctrines of the WTBTRS, a False Prophet.
Before analyzing the WT book, two definitions are needed. WT quotes are in BLUE.

Exegesis is the process of drawing out the meaning from a text in accordance with the context and discoverable meaning of its author,
Where As
Eisegesis occurs when a translator imposes his/her interpretation into and onto the text. In Biblical Eisegesis a translator has a pre-conceived doctrine, then goes to the Bible and translates a verse in a way that supports that doctrine. The word Eisegesis literally means “to lead into,” which means the interpreter wants to lead the reader to a particular conclusion--a conclusion that he supports but the Bible, if studied correctly, does not support.
Back to the book, top of page 59. "Attend the
Memorial of Christ's death. . . Jesus wants us to remember that he gave his
perfect life as a ransom for us. He said: "Keep doing this in remembrance
of me."
I have blogged about this here and here.
The WT emphasis is on REMEMBERING Christ's sacrifice. They do this "remembering" by looking at the bread and wine as it is passed from person to person throughout the Kingdom Hall on the one day of the year that they celebrate Christ's Memorial. Only a member of the 144,000 can actually partake. Jesus emphasized, that to remember His sacrifice, one must partake of the bread and wine. Read 1 Cor. 11:23-26, John 6:53-58 and Matthew 26:26-27.
So has the WT used EXEGESIS or EISEGESIS in stating that to remember Christ's sacrifice one needs to "look" at the bread and wine as it is passed from person to person?
Returning to the book, top of page 63. Where do we go when we die? . . . So when someone dies, his feelings and memories do not keep on living somewhere else. . . King Solomon wrote that "the dead know nothing at all."
The WT is at their WT best in jumping around Ecclesiastes like a Knight on a chess board. The typical WT door-knocker absolutely believes, "All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the "greatly diversified wisdom of God" can become known ONLY through Jehovah's channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave." (The Watchtower, October 1, 1994, p. 8.)
Thus a Witness will read what the WT writes and believe every single word without question, without being a Berean (won't check a WT thought with the Bible). I am not about to re-invent the wheel. A great answer to "the dead know nothing," can be found here at GotQuestions.org. I highly recommend them for any and all Biblical questions.
So has the WT used EXEGESIS or EISEGESIS in stating that "the dead know nothing?"
Once again, back in the WT book page 71 Chapter 7, "There will be a Resurrection!" On page 79 the WT states, "The unrighteous" include billions of people who did not have the opportunity to know Jehovah. Even though they died, Jehovah hasn't forgotten them. He will resurrect them, and they will have the opportunity to learn about him and serve him." This means that some people will have a SECOND chance to "know Jehovah."
Once again, I would have you check out GotQuestions.org on this topic, "Will there be a second chance for salvation after death?" here. Let me quote our Lord, "From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “REPENT for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”(Matthew 4:17), "I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to REPENTANCE." (Luke 5:32) "The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they REPENTED at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here." (Matthew 12:41) "Unless you REPENT, you will all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3, 5). What kind of warning would it be to say that God is ready to judge people for sin and then say that it doesn’t really matter how you live now because you’ll always have another chance after death to get saved?
Has the WT used EXEGESIS or EISEGESIS in stating that "people will have a second chance to know Jehovah?"
On to Part 3 here.
