Is the Watch Tower a HUCKSTER of the Word of God?

The Merrian-Webster online dictionary defines HUCKSTER as “a hawker or peddler, especially one who sells or advertises for something in an aggressive, dishonest, or annoying way.” Concerning the WT, I am going to zero in on the “dishonest way” although the WT would qualify in all three areas. Look at 2 Corinthians 2:17. “You see, we are not like the many HUCKSTERS who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ's authority, knowing that God is watching us.” New Living Translation

The above verse tells us that HUCKSTERS preach for personal profit. Thus, the WT is a HUCKSTER if they (1) sell something (their system of beliefs) in a dishonest way (2) for profit. Is the WT in it for profit?

Ask the typical “door knocker” and they feel that the WT could care less about money. There is no collection taken at the Kingdom Halls and the publications are inexpensive compared to “worldly” books and pamphlets. What the “door knocker” doesn’t realize is that they, the average JW, is the WTBTS’s “cash cow.” No need to sell to “worldly people.” All the profit the WT needs comes from the run-of-the-mill JW.

How is the individual JW a CASH COW? Every JW prides himself on the Library of WT publications he has amassed. If you know a JW, just ask him to show you his collection of WT books, etc. and you will have an inkling of how much he has spent on WT publications. Each JW is expected to purchase every book and magazine published by the WT. They are also expected to purchase extra books and magazines to hand  out, for free, in the door-to-door service. Combine this with the fact that the workers who produce the publications work for minimum wage or less and one can see that the profit margin for the WT is indeed great. Not to mention there are about 8 million JW’s who are eagerly waiting to purchase every publication even if they don’t read them. Not purchasing a publication an individual JW could be viewed as “spiritually weak.”

So the WT is in it for profit. Do they “sell/market” their system of beliefs in a dishonest way? I have blogged about the many verses the WT simply changes to match their doctrine. (See any of my eight (8) part series: Presto Change-O! Part 1 is here.) It never occurs to them to change their doctrine to match the Bible—they always opt to change the Bible to match their doctrine. Below are a few examples of this dishonest practice. You then be the judge—is the WT a HUCKSTER? Do they sell their doctrine in a dishonest way for profit?

When viewing the verses below (all come from the WT’s own KIT), carefully read the Left column—the wide column with the Greek words and with the English translation below each Greek word and then read the narrow Right column—this is how the WT translated the Greek into readable English. Then ask yourself—is the WT Bible (the Right side) an honest translation of the original Greek, found on the Left side? For more on the KIT, see any of the following: here, here, here, here, here, here, here.
