Why the WT is not Christian!

I recently posted an ad on Craig's List that read, "From Jehovah's Witness to Christian. Interested in our Testimony--just ask." My testimony is here and my wife's is here. I received this response, "I'm confused, aren't JW's Christian?"

My response:

You might be confused because you may consider JW’s to be Christian. However, that is not the case. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is a Christian cult and therefore not Christian at all. A Christian cult is a religious group that states that they follow the doctrines of the Bible but actually deny one or more of the fundamentals of Biblical truth—fundamentals that MUST be believed in order to be considered Christian. A Christian cult is a group that teaches fundamental doctrines that, if believed, will cause a person to remain unsaved. The JW’s claim to be Christian but deny at least two of the fundamental truths of Christianity.

CHRISTIAN TRUTH #1 DENIED BY JW’S. They believe that Jesus is not Almighty God. That Jesus is God is a truth that the Bible proclaims over and over. One example—Christians believe that you can pray only to God. At John 14:14 Jesus Himself tells His followers that "if ever anything you should ask ME in the name of ME this I shall do." The JW’s own Bible, The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures, (KIT) states exactly that. See below. Read the Greek side, the left side, the God breathed side of the KIT at John 14:14 to see this truth. (I have blogged about this verse here and here). The JW’s  don't believe Jesus is God so they delete the first "ME" at John 14:14 when translating the verse in their Bible, The New World Translation (see the right side below which is the NWT).

We know from Hebrews 3:4 that "the builder of all things is God." At Colossians 1:16-17 Jesus is said to have created all things, all things were created for Him, He is before all things and He holds all things together. To deny this truth the WT adds the word “other” four times before “all things” so the verse now denies that Christ created all things and is therefore not God. See below where the WT, in translating this verse from the Greek into readable English for their NWT, has added "other" four times to Colossians to once again give their followers the illusion that their Bible is a faithful translation of the original Greek, and that Jesus is not God. I have blogged about this verse here and here.

These are just two examples of the WT changing their Bible to give JW’s the false belief that the doctrines of the WT  are Bible based. There are many more such examples. I have blogged about this in an eight part series entitled, "Presto Change-O!" Part 1 is here.

CHRISTIAN TRUTH #2 DENIED BY THE JW’S. The WT denies salvation by faith alone thus they believe salvation is achieved by one's own works. See my blog: The Gospel of the WT Explained! which is here, and The Gospel of the Bible Explained! which is here. In an article entitled "Working Hard for the Reward of Eternal Life," the WT states, “It is for the reward of eternal life that every last person on earth should now be working… [Jehovah’s Witnesses] are working hard… making themselves eligible to receive the reward of eternal life. . . Why are God's dedicated people working so hard? . . . they are mindful of the rich reward that God holds out to them--the reward of everlasting life.” (The Watchtower, Aug. 15, 1972, pgs. 492-493). See below.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe many things that are based on the Bible. However, since they deny the deity of Christ and preach a salvation by works, both fundamental doctrines of Christianity, they are a cult and therefore non-Christian. If they have the truth, why do they have to alter Holy Scripture to align with their doctrine. What they should do is alter their doctrine to go along with the unaltered word of God.

See my 5 part series, Is the WT Doctrine Christian?, Part 1 is here.

As a Christian, my hope and prayer is that many people involved with the JW’s will see through the lies and will be drawn to the truth of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
