Twisted Scriptures and other Shenanigans! Part 6

The following was in ‘Twisted Scriptures and other Shenanigans! Part 3’ but is worth repeating. In the JW Bible, “The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures,” [KIT] (I am using the purple covered version the new one is blue) on page 18, the WT states that in the New Testament whenever you see the Greek words “Lord” and “God” and the NT verse is referring to a verse from the Old Testament, the WT is justified in changing Christ and God to Jehovah. I just want to mention that there are over 5,600 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament and there is not a single case of the word Jehovah appearing in any verse. So to change the NT 237 times with zero manuscript backing is unbelievable. My point in this blog is to look at a 1 Peter 3:12-15 where the WT can be seen both following their ‘rule’ and then three verses later ignoring that same ‘rule.’ You will see why this was done. The following verses are quoted from the NWT. 1 Peter 3:12-15 [12] "For the [eyes] of Jehovah are upon the righteous ones, and his ears are toward their supplication; but [the] face of Jehovah is against those doing bad things. [13] Indeed, who is the man that will harm you if you become zealous for what is good? [14] But even if YOU should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are happy. However, the object of their fear do not YOU fear, neither become agitated. [15] but sanctify the Christ as Lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of you a reason for the hope in YOU, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect.” (NWT)

In verse 12 the word ‘Lord’ appears twice on the Greek side, “Because eyes of Lord upon righteous (ones) and ears of him into supplication of them, face but of Lord upon (ones) doing bad (things).” 1 Peter 3:12 is a reference to Psalms 34:12-16 and thus the WT says they are justified in changing ‘Lord’ to ‘Jehovah.’ The verse now reads, ”For the [eyes] of Jehovah are upon the righteous ones, and his ears are toward their supplication; but [the] face of Jehovah is against those doing bad things.” In the footnote at the bottom of the page the WT gives 10 references that back the insertion of Jehovah in these two instances.

In verse 15 the word Lord again appears on the Greek side. “Lord but the Christ sanctify you in the hearts of you.” Verses 14 and 15 are a reference to Isaiah 8:12-13 but the WT has not taken out Lord and inserted Jehovah—according to their rule. Why have they ignored their rule and not made this the 238^th time they have inserted Jehovah into the NT.

Well, if we make the substitution I think it will be apparent. “But sanctify the Christ as Jehovah God.” If you look at the WT footnote, there are seven references that back this insertion.

But in WT theology Jesus cannot be Jehovah God. Therefore, the WT has ignored their own rule and not made the substitution. Intellectually dishonest to say the least!
