DISCLAIMER--I will, by no means, exhaustively write about each
and every error in each and every chapter of this book—that would require a
book several times the size of this WT book. I will pick out a topic or two
from each chapter to write about. Some will be a “mole hill” in the landscape
of Bible doctrine and others will be a “Mt. Everest.”
Chapter 5 “The
Ransom—God’s Greatest Gift,” I get to comment on a pet peeve (a mole hill)
of mine concerning the WT. They are always pointing to the fact that they
follow Bible teachings without fail. They are quick to point out that they
follow scripture and no one else does in prohibiting blood transfusions,
birthdays, etc. They show in their pictures of the Magi traveling to Bethlehem
that there are just two not three and state that a careful reading of scripture
states “Magi”—plural. It could be any number greater than one and most likely
is not three.
Of course, if you have read this blog and/or are familiar with
WT doctrine, you know that the blood issue, birthdays, holidays, etc. are
enforced to cause the typical JW to separate themselves from none-JW’s in order
NOT to hear information that would cause the JW to question the WT. The JW
might start reading the Bible without WT aides—and eventually leave the
Organization. This would deprive the WT of its cash cow—the individual JW.
How is the individual JW a cash cow? Every JW prides himself on
the Library of WT publications he has amassed. If you know a JW, just ask him
to show you his collection of WT books, etc. and you will have an inkling of
how much he has spent on WT publications. Each JW is expected to purchase every
book published by the WT. They are also expected to purchase extra books and
magazines to hand out in the door-to-door service. Combine this with the fact
that the workers who produce the publications work for minimum wage or less and
one can see that the profit margin for the WT is indeed great. Not to mention
there are about 8 million JW’s who are eagerly waiting to purchase every
publication even if they don’t read them. Not purchasing a publication and an
individual JW could be viewed as “spiritually weak.” A good example of a WT book
that is purchased but rarely used would be the Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures.
Back to my pet peeve. On page 52 is the WT picture of Jesus
crucified on a “Torture Stake.” It doesn’t make any difference to Christians if
Christ was killed on a Torture Stake or Cross. My pet peeve is that the WT
picture shows Jesus nailed to the Stake with ONE nail. The scripture is quite
clear in John 20:25b, “Unless I (Thomas) see in his hands (plural) the print of
the NAILS (plural) and stick my finger into the print of the NAILS (plural) and
stick my hand into his side, I will certainly not believe.” Yet with clear
scriptural support for more than one nail the WT has used this one nail picture
for years. Yet they maintain that everything they teach is Biblically based.
In talking with JW’s at my door, if this subject comes up, they
have no choice but to agree that the picture is wrong—his hands need a second
nail (at least) to be Biblically correct. My point to the JW is then this—If
the WT, concerning a really minor point and in the face of clear Biblical
teaching, has got it wrong, how can you trust them to get it right on a more
critical (Mt. Everest) point of doctrine which would require much study?
After I have pointed out the “it should be two nails not one”
subject to JW’s, they assure me that it has never come up in their door-to-door
work, but they promise to look into it and get back to me. None ever have.

Bible Really Teach--A WT Book Chap. 6 here.
