Why
it is a Jehovah’s Witness—right on time for his divinely scheduled appointment
to hear God’s truth? I say a quick prayer as I answer the door, “May I not get
in the way of your Word—may the seed fall on fertile soil.”
JW: “Good morning!
He hands me a small tract, “Can the
dead really live again?” He then tells me that he is at my house to bring me
the good news of the Kingdom.
Me: I thought the good news was the death,
burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, described by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15.
JW: Yes that is important—Jesus is the
cornerstone and by his ransom death he gives us an opportunity to live in the
Kingdom he rules. He will see to it that God's original purpose is
accomplished. Under the Kingdom's righteous administration this earth will be
cultivated to become a beautiful Paradise. However, not everyone will be
permitted to live in the Paradise earth. Requirements must be met. He turns to Ephesians 5:5 and reads, “For
this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is
an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
You see Paul preached the Kingdom.
Me: In 2 Corinthians 11:4 Paul talks about
another Jesus and a different Gospel. The Watchtower problem is with their
cornerstone. They have another Jesus, not the Jesus of the Bible. Thus all of
their building—door-to-door work, studying, etc.—is on a faulty cornerstone and
will come tumbling down during the Great White Throne Judgment of Revelation 20.Because you have the wrong Jesus you
are also preaching a different gospel, different than the one Paul preached in
1 Corinthians 15, the same Paul who wrote 2 Corinthians 11.
Also the
book of Ephesians was written to “the saints which are at Ephesus ,
and to the faithful in Christ Jesus.” In other words, to those who have
believed the real gospel and have put their faith in the real Jesus. So Paul is
talking to born-again believers about the Kingdom. You do not talk to
unregenerate man about the Kingdom, you talk to them about sin, repentance and
forgiveness. Once they are born-again the Kingdom is an appropriate topic.
JW:
“I don’t want to argue. Have a good
day.”
Me: Silently to myself: “Lord I pray I did not
get in the way of your word and may the seed fall on fertile soil.”
