JW’s are quick
to point out that the word ‘Trinity’ is not found anywhere in the Bible. Their
conclusion—since the word is not in the Bible the idea that the God of the
Bible is a triune God cannot possible be true. End of argument? Of course not.
Both Christians and JW’s use words all the time which are not found anywhere in
the Bible.
The word
“Trinity” could be called a Biblical “picture.” A picture is worth a thousand
words and a Biblical “picture” is worth a thousand words of Bible explanations.
‘Theocracy’ is a term used often by JW’s (but not found in the Bible) and when it is used they draw a
picture in their mind about what it means. Using Biblical “pictures” is
something that is done often by both Christians and JW’s. By using a Biblical
“picture” you do not have to take the time to give a lengthy explanation about
your subject. So it is with the Christians use of the word "Trinity".
The word is not found in the Bible, but it speaks of Bible truth found
throughout the Old and New Testaments.
There are a
number of words that JW’s use that are not found in the Bible. Examples are:
atheist, theocracy, millennium, monotheists and monotheism. JW’s are
hypocritical if they use the argument that since the word Trinity is not found
in the Bible it must be a false doctrine, because they do the very same thing
as mentioned above.
Christians have
believed in the Trinity since apostolic times. It was in the fourth century
that certain heresies arose that denied either Christ’s divinity or humanity.
This required Christian leaders to specifically define the nature of the
Trinity. The word itself has its origins in the Latin word Trinitas, which
means “three in one”.
A word can
legitimately be used to describe Biblical truth if the meaning of that word is
found in the Bible. So the real question is—does the Bible teach that God is a
triune God?
